Mariska Hargitay will host the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards on 14 September, NBC announced, marking the first time a woman has hosted the ceremony since 2011. The broadcast will air live on NBC and stream on Peacock from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Hargitay, who has starred in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit since 1999, succeeds comedian Nate Bargatze, who hosted last year's ceremony. Nominations for the awards, which have been presented annually since 1949, will be revealed on Wednesday, 10 July 2026.

The Emmys remain television's highest honours, recognising excellence across scripted, unscripted and limited-series programming.
