Mario Orfeo announced his resignation as editor of La Repubblica on Wednesday, stepping down from the role he held since October 2024. He will become editorial director of QN Media on 9 September, while Agnese Pini remains editor-in-chief of the QN group's titles.
Orfeo, the only journalist to have directed all three of RAI's flagship news programmes, leaves amid succession speculation. Reported candidates include Domani editor Emiliano Fittipaldi, former L'Espresso editor Marco Damilano, Sky TG24's Fabio Vitale, and deputy editors Stefano Cappellini and Carlo Bonini.
The leadership change follows a turbulent period at parent group GEDI, which Theodore Kyriakou's Antenna Group acquired in March — a deal contested by newsroom journalists.
