A 52-year-old man shot and killed himself outside a dance school in Cagliari on Sunday after attempting to kill the school's owner, who had twice rejected his enrollment request, authorities and local media reported.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on 12 July in the Mulinu Becciu district, an outlying neighborhood of the Sardinian capital. The man fired a 12-gauge shotgun toward the woman, who was uninjured and fled inside the building with another witness. Two spent shell casings were found at the scene.

The man had tried to register for a flamenco course at the school over the previous two days but was turned away, and acted after the second refusal. He used the same firearm to deliver a fatal shot to the chest. The shotgun was legally owned.
