Tens of thousands of demonstrators marched through Palma de Mallorca on Sunday evening against mass tourism, culminating in scuffles with police at Ses Voltes square that left eight people injured, two hospitalised with minor wounds, after organisers rallied residents to protest the island's tourism saturation.
Police estimated 25,000 participants while organisers claimed up to 70,000 at the demonstration, held under the banner "Mallorca at its limit" by the platform Menys Turisme, Més Vida. The group is demanding a cap on visitor numbers on an island where over 100,000 homes are now used for tourist rentals. The protest came one year before the Balearic regional elections.
Mallorca received a record 13.5 million visitors in 2025, and a solar eclipse next August is expected to trigger another massive influx of tourists.
