Leftist member of parliament Elena Akrita raised concerns on Facebook about measures taken for the singer's festivities, including a reported directive asking residents of the village of Kouramades to close their windows to shield the star from onlookers. Conservative Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis responded swiftly to Akrita's criticism, countering her complaints.
Madonna, who shared photos of a white heart-shaped cake from the celebration, noted that she had last visited Greece 26 years ago, when she was seven months pregnant with her son Rocco. She also spent time on the island of Patmos during her current trip.
