Lawsuit accuses Trump administration of sharing Iranian asylum seekers' data with Tehran

A federal lawsuit filed Tuesday accuses the Trump administration of sharing confidential immigration records of Iranian asylum seekers with the Iranian government, potentially endangering detainees facing deportation. The Iranian American Legal Defense Fund alleges that U.S. officials began arranging monthly meetings with Iranian counterparts through the Pakistani embassy in March 2025, periodically handing over sensitive files including asylum applications and removal orders for Iranians held in ICE custody.

The plaintiffs claim the information-sharing arrangement persisted even after joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran ignited a broader conflict in February. More than 100 Iranians have been deported to the Islamic Republic under Trump, the group said. The suit seeks to halt further disclosures and reopen the immigration cases of affected detainees.

The Department of Homeland Security denied the allegations, calling claims that ICE shared asylum records with Tehran false.
