Joan Jett cancels tour dates after surgery for fractured vertebra

· Entertainment USA

Joan Jett has scrapped two upcoming U.S. concerts after undergoing orthopedic surgery for a broken vertebra. The 67-year-old rock singer was scheduled to appear at the Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa, California, on September 5 and at the Bourbon & Beyond festival in Louisville, Kentucky, on September 24. Her team said the cancellations were decided in close consultation with medical staff, and the singer will now begin physical therapy to aid her recovery.

The setback interrupts a busy touring schedule for Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, who recently completed their first UK headline run in 16 years with stops in Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Wolverhampton and London. Earlier this summer the band played European festivals including Sweden Rock, Tons of Rock in Norway, and Belgium's Sjock Festival on July 12.

Jett told the Telegraph in June that she had toured every year since launching her career, underscoring the rarity of this forced pause.
