Joachim Kerzel, the prolific German dubbing actor who served as the voice of Anthony Hopkins, Jack Nicholson and Dustin Hoffman for decades, has died at the age of 84. His agency, Media-Paten, confirmed his death following his passing on Monday.
Kerzel's filmography encompasses more than 1,400 dubbing roles. He was the German voice of Sir Anthony Hopkins for over 30 years and also lent his voice to Jean Reno. He received the German Dubbing Prize in 2003 for his work as Nicholson in "About Schmidt" and was awarded the audience prize Hörkules and a Gold Record in 2008 for the audiobook "The Pillars of the Earth."
Beyond his studio work, Kerzel co-founded an acting school with Maria Körber in the mid-1980s. Fellow dubbing actor Peter Flechtner publicly announced the death, describing Kerzel as his mentor.
