The show, originally scheduled for 8 p.m., did not begin until shortly after midnight on July 12. Hundreds of people without tickets attempted to force their way inside, with some groups pushing past ticket holders and breaching security checkpoints. Live Nation closed all stadium entrances for an extended period. Jay-Z told the crowd that roughly 10,000 people were gathered outside and that doors had been locked due to the surge. The postponement was a precaution against a crowd crush. Celebrity attendees, including A$AP Rocky, were reportedly stranded outside during the standoff.
More than 40,000 spectators ultimately attended the concert, which marked Jay-Z's first major solo show since 2017 and celebrated the 25th and 30th anniversaries of his albums "The Blueprint" and "Reasonable Doubt." The first two dates of the residency had proceeded without incident.
