Before the cooldown arrives, Sunday will see temperatures of 36–37°C in Florence and Rome, while Sicily and Sardinia are expected to exceed 40°C, meteorologists say. A marked, widespread drop in temperatures is forecast to sweep much of the country beginning Tuesday, both forecasts agree.
In neighboring Austria, Monday will bring high temperatures of up to 28°C, with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected across the southern Alpine slopes and the country's southeast. Areas around Lake Constance and Austria's northern and eastern regions are likely to remain mostly dry.
