Delivery riders for Glovo and Deliveroo will walk off the job on July 15 in Milan, Florence, and Bologna, protesting stagnant wages and hazardous working conditions during an intense heatwave sweeping Italy.
The stoppages, organised by the Nidil CGIL union, come a day before a national roundtable at the Labour Ministry. Workers are demanding a heat allowance for riders forced to stop deliveries for safety reasons and guaranteed income continuity during such suspensions. In Milan, riders will march from Largo Cairoli, while in Bologna a procession will move from Piazza Nettuno to Piazza XX Settembre. Florence's mobilisation followed an assembly convened by the local Nidil CGIL chapter.
Workers say pay has flattened to roughly €3 per delivery regardless of distance, while extreme temperatures compound already difficult conditions. Not all unions are participating: Felsa CISL's Lombardy branch has declined to join the action.
