Patrick O'Donovan, Ireland's minister for arts, media and sport, has been hospitalised in Brussels after becoming unwell on Tuesday night while attending events tied to Ireland's presidency of the Council of the European Union.

A spokesperson confirmed that O'Donovan remains under close medical observation. He had travelled to the Belgian capital to introduce a concert at the Le Flagey cultural centre, one of three flagship projects showcasing Irish culture during the rotating EU presidency.

The minister previously disclosed a photo sensitivity condition that manifests as epilepsy, which caused him to collapse in the Dáil chamber in June 2023. No further details on his current condition have been released.
