An Irish government investigation has found no definitive evidence linking alumina exports from the Aughinish plant in County Limerick to Russian weapons manufacturers, Taoiseach Micheál Martin told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during talks in Kyiv on Thursday.
The independent review made no adverse findings against the facility, which was scrutinised following allegations that its product had leaked into military supply chains. Enterprise Minister Peter Burke noted a lack of verifiable internal Russian trade data since the 2022 invasion, while Aughinish provided assurances that none of its output is used for military purposes — claims the department said it could not independently verify. Zelensky called for Ireland to impose its own sanctions on the company.
Martin also announced €125 million in additional Irish support for Ukraine in 2026, with €100 million earmarked for defence needs including air defence systems. The probe's results will be shared with the European Commission.
