IBM and its research partners have announced three demonstrations of quantum advantage, marking what the company describes as a milestone in error-mitigated computation that classical systems cannot feasibly reproduce.
Working with Qedma Quantum Computing, IBM ran simulations on its Heron processor, observing quantum dynamics across up to 74 qubits in a materials-physics model. A separate project with Algorithmiq produced a framework for reliable heterogeneous matter simulation, while the University of Chicago collaboration employed a new error-correction method to operate 70 logical qubits.
CEO Arvind Krishna said quantum computing will have a measurable impact on IBM's revenue by 2028 or 2029 and could represent a trillion dollars of value by the end of the 2030s. IBM is positioning its quantum stack alongside high-end classical supercomputers as part of a broader computing toolkit.
