Hungarian prosecutors raided a data centre hosting Fidesz party servers on Monday, seizing communications systems and databases belonging to the party of former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
The Bács-Kiskun county prosecutor's office is investigating embezzlement and other offences linked to the National Cultural Fund. Tax authorities found serious suspicions that NKA leadership exceeded its powers in awarding 1,079 grants worth over 17 billion forints (€47 million). Six people have been detained, including Balázs Bús, a Fidesz member and former NKA deputy chairman.
The raid follows Fidesz's devastating defeat to the Tisza Party in April parliamentary elections. Fidesz stated there has been no precedent for such action in Hungary since 1990.
