French authorities evacuated roughly 300 people from an area near a synagogue in Sarcelles on Saturday evening after a vehicle flagged by the General Directorate for Internal Security was found to contain an assault rifle and a handgun. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed on Sunday that the car was parked close to the synagogue in the Paris suburb.
The National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation into suspected terrorist criminal association and weapons offences. The identities of any suspects and a possible motive remain unclear as of Sunday.
