A hare ran onto the runway during a landing at Dresden Airport on Sunday evening, July 12, prompting a brief closure of the airfield and disrupting several flights.
The runway was shut for roughly 30 minutes beginning at about 20:10 local time so staff could inspect the surface. During the closure, an Airbus A220 arriving from Zurich was diverted to Leipzig/Halle Airport, while a Cessna from Hanover and a Vueling Airbus A321 from Barcelona circled in holding patterns above Dresden.
The animal was struck and killed by the landing aircraft, but the plane sustained no damage. Normal operations resumed after the runway was cleared and inspected.
