SpVgg Greuther Fürth and 1. FC Nürnberg meet Saturday at 13:00 in the 277th edition of the Franconian derby, a fixture Fürth head coach Heiko Vogel has dubbed the "mother of all derbies".

Vogel, who took charge of Fürth in December with a 2-2 draw in the 275th derby, remains unbeaten in the rivalry after also securing a 1-1 result in May. His counterpart Miroslav Klose, two years into his tenure at Nürnberg, shares the same unbeaten record in derby matches.

Both clubs opened the new season with positive results. Fürth earned a 1-1 draw away to Bundesliga-relegated FC St. Pauli, while Nürnberg defeated Dynamo Dresden 3-0 at home, a match in which Mohamed Ali Zoma scored a hat-trick. Elsewhere in the second division, Hertha BSC host 1. FC Heidenheim at the Olympiastadion, the first league meeting between the two sides at the venue.
