Greens rebound in poll offers left-leaning coalition slim majority ahead of German state election

· Politics DEU

A left-leaning three-party coalition could reclaim a narrow majority in Germany's Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state parliament, as the Greens climb back above the five-percent threshold needed for representation just weeks before a September 20 election.

The Alternative for Germany holds steady at 36 percent, remaining the strongest single party in the northeastern state. However, the Social Democratic Party of Minister-President Manuela Schwesig gains two points to 29 percent compared to May. Combined with the Greens at five percent and The Left at 12 percent, a red-red-green bloc would command 46 percent — one point more than all other parties combined.

The Christian Democratic Union slips to nine percent while the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance falls short of parliamentary entry at four percent. The Infratest dimap survey for NDR polled 1,167 eligible voters from July 2 to 6.
