Franco Baresi, the former AC Milan captain who died at the age of 66, spent his entire professional career with the Italian club, making 719 official appearances across 20 seasons from 1977 to 1997.
Baresi won six Serie A titles and three European Cups with Milan, captaining the side for 15 years. He represented Italy 81 times and was part of the squad that won the 1982 World Cup in Spain. He later captained Italy to the 1994 World Cup final, where they lost to Brazil on penalties. AC Milan retired his number 6 shirt upon his retirement.
Baresi, who had been named honorary vice president of Milan in 2020, underwent surgery for a lung nodule in 2025. His last public appearance was at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics opening ceremony in February 2026.
