Four men in their 20s were killed when a black Seat Cupra left the road and crashed into a lamppost on Liverpool Road in Huyton, Merseyside, just before 02:00 BST on Thursday. The vehicle was travelling from Liverpool towards Knowsley at the time of the collision.

The deceased — two aged 23, one aged 24 and one aged 26 — were pronounced dead at the scene. A 27-year-old passenger was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Police closed eleven roads in the area, including Liverpool Road and East Prescot Road, with closures expected to persist over the weekend. A temporary drone restriction zone was imposed above Liverpool Road. Superintendent Paul Holden appealed for witnesses and said authorities were seeking answers for the victims' families.
