Manfred Manglitz, a former West Germany international goalkeeper who became the first netminder to score in the Bundesliga before his career was derailed by a match-fixing scandal, has died. He was 86. Manglitz died on 13 July 2026 after a short, serious illness.
Playing for MSV Duisburg and 1. FC Köln, Manglitz amassed 257 Bundesliga appearances and made history in June 1967 when he converted a penalty to become the first goalkeeper to score in Germany's top flight. He earned four caps for the national team between 1965 and 1970 and travelled to the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, though he did not feature in any matches.
His career ended in controversy when he was implicated in the 1970–71 Bundesliga bribery scandal while at Köln. He received a lifetime ban that was later commuted in 1974.
