Manú, a Portuguese former professional footballer who played for Benfica, died in a road accident on Saturday night, 11 July 2026, in Sobral de Monte Agraço, Portugal. He was 43 years old, though some reports placed his age at 45.
Born in Setúbal in 1982, the midfielder represented Benfica during the 2006–07 season, making 17 appearances for the first team. That season included a Champions League match against FC Copenhagen at Parken Stadium that ended in a goalless draw. He later spent two seasons with Marítimo between 2008 and 2010, featuring in more than 50 official matches.
Manú also had a stint with Legia Warsaw, where he won the Polish Cup. One report stated the accident occurred in Brazil, conflicting with other accounts placing it in Portugal.
