A fire erupted Thursday afternoon in the attic of the Hotel Plaza in Gabicce Mare, a coastal town on the border with Cattolica, forcing the evacuation of the building and leaving two people requiring medical attention for smoke inhalation.
Flames spread across the fifth and top floor of the hotel, an area used for staff logistics, before firefighters — supported by crews from the Rimini command — brought the blaze under control. Firefighters rescued a woman from her room, while a staff member was also treated for smoke intoxication. Authorities confirmed no one remains unaccounted for.
The cause is believed to be a short circuit. Fire crews remained on scene to clear residual hazards.
