FBI Director Kash Patel is planning a trip to Moscow and St. Petersburg tentatively scheduled for 14–15 October, in what would be the first visit to Russia by a sitting FBI chief in more than thirteen years, since Robert Mueller's trip in 2013.
The Russian Federal Security Service is expected to serve as host for the two-city itinerary, with Patel due to stop first in Moscow before travelling to St. Petersburg. High-level American visits to Russia have been rare since the start of the war in Ukraine; earlier trips by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner aimed at a peace framework ended without concrete agreements.
Patel was nominated to lead the FBI by Donald Trump in November 2024.
