Facebook and Instagram suffer worldwide outage on Sunday morning

Facebook and Instagram experienced a worldwide outage on Sunday, July 19, 2026, with thousands of users reporting problems by mid-morning.

The disruption rendered the desktop version of Facebook inaccessible, displaying messages including "Account Temporarily Unavailable" and the French equivalent "Compte temporairement indisponible" upon login attempts. Downdetector recorded hundreds of complaints, with roughly half involving web access issues and the remainder split between login failures and feed disruptions. The Facebook mobile app remained operational, as did Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram's core services, though some users reported secondary issues with the latter.

The cause appeared to be a site-level issue affecting Meta's web infrastructure. The company has not issued a statement regarding the disruption or an estimated timeline for restoration.
