England defender Jarell Quansah has been suspended for two World Cup matches after FIFA's disciplinary committee extended his punishment for serious foul play, ruling him out of the knockout stages.
Quansah received a straight red card in the 54th minute of England's 3-2 last-16 victory over Mexico for a high challenge on Jesus Gallardo. The initial one-match suspension was increased to two games for breaching Article 14 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. The Football Association considered appealing the decision but found no avenue to contest the ban.
The 23-year-old will miss Saturday's quarter-final against Norway and a potential semi-final should England progress. He would only become available again for the final or third-place play-off.
