Ellen Burstyn will be honoured with the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, running 2–12 September 2026. The Oscar-winning American actress joins George Clooney, who was previously announced as a lifetime achievement recipient for the same edition.
Burstyn's award will be presented during a screening of the short film 'Flesh Impact', directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal. The decision was approved by the board of La Biennale di Venezia following a proposal by artistic director Alberto Barbera.
The lifetime achievement honour recognises Burstyn's six-decade career spanning stage and screen, placing her among the most celebrated performers to be feted at the historic Lido festival.
