Disney and TikTok strike first-of-its-kind deal for short-form video content

The Walt Disney Company and TikTok have announced a landmark agreement allowing creators to incorporate characters and scenes from Disney's film and television catalog into short-form videos, marking the first such partnership between TikTok and a traditional media company.

Under the deal, creators will gain access to material spanning hundreds of Disney films and series, including franchises from Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and FX. Selected videos will appear both on TikTok and within Disney+'s Verts section, a vertical-video feature launched in March and currently available only in the United States. A pilot program will roll out in the U.S. in the coming months, with plans to expand to other markets.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The partnership follows a separate, now-defunct licensing agreement Disney struck with OpenAI in December 2025 for AI-generated video, which ended in March 2026 when the video generator shut down.
