Deutsche Bahn delays Nuremberg-Regensburg reopening, to review corridor overhaul program

· Business DEU

Deutsche Bahn has pushed back the reopening of its Nuremberg-Regensburg rail corridor to July 31, missing a previously announced July 10 target due to delays in safety checks on signalling technology. The line has been closed since February, and bus replacements and train diversions will continue until full service resumes at the start of Bavaria's summer holidays.

The setback marks the second delay to Deutsche Bahn's corridor overhaul program in 2026, following a six-week overrun on the Hamburg-Berlin route that was completed in June. Elsewhere, the Hagen-Wuppertal-Cologne corridor remains on schedule for a Friday launch.

Chief executive Evelyn Palla announced a review of how the railway conducts its corridor overhauls, saying the program's methodology would be reassessed. Deutsche Bahn has planned comprehensive renovations of more than 40 major traffic corridors by the mid-2030s.
