Denmark assumed the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council on Friday, taking over from the Democratic Republic of Congo for the month of August. The presidency rotates monthly among the council's 15 members, and France will take the helm in September.
Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said Denmark will use its tenure to push for action, accountability, and solutions on peace and security issues. Denmark, which previously held the presidency in March 2025, is scheduled to present its programme and agenda for August meetings on 3 August.
The council has faced significant challenges over the past year, including when U.S. President Donald Trump vetoed a Gaza ceasefire resolution in 2025.
