Skanderborg's Smukfest will replace a batch of single-use tents with 220 reusable plastic shelters at this year's edition, part of a broader push to reduce festival waste. The ReTent structures, developed in partnership with waste-reduction groups and plastics manufacturer Gibo Plast, will be installed at the Sølund camping area from Aug. 4, with rentals priced at 1,800 kroner for two people.
The festival, running Aug. 2–9 in Skanderborg, has also cut its standard tent procurement to 4,100 units from 5,380 a year earlier. A prototype was trialled by 20 groups of festivalgoers last year.
Beyond shelter, the festival is outfitting its 16,000 volunteers with shirts made from 30 percent recycled textile fibres, repurposing an estimated 2,300 kilograms of discarded fabric. A standard Hotelt rental costs 1,250 kroner by comparison.
