Czech President Petr Pavel has signed a government amendment increasing the parental allowance by 50,000 crowns to a total of 400,000 crowns, effective for children born from January 1, 2027. Families with twins or multiple births will receive double the amount, reaching 800,000 crowns.
Labour and Social Affairs Minister Aleš Juchelka said the increase aims to offset inflation and improve conditions for families with children. The Ministry estimates the budget impact at roughly 230 million crowns in the first year, rising to about 3.6 billion crowns annually from 2030. Extending the raise to current recipients would have cost an estimated 7.3 billion crowns next year, a move opposition lawmakers failed to secure.
The amendment also adjusts housing support calculations within the state assistance system and expands the definition of vulnerable groups to include single parents with children up to age 15. The allowance was last raised in January 2024, from 300,000 to 350,000 crowns.
