The Czech interior and transport ministries have proposed legislation that would significantly expand authorities' powers to neutralise drones near protected sites, responding to a rising number of incidents around sensitive facilities.
Under the draft, police would be authorised to destroy drones suspected of espionage, while employees of companies managing critical infrastructure would gain permission to disrupt or eliminate dangerous unmanned aircraft after receiving training. Interior Minister Vaclav Metnar indicated the government favours electronic jamming devices over conventional firearms for counter-drone operations.
The push follows a surge in drone activity near guarded locations. In the first quarter of 2026, the Czech Republic recorded 85 incidents involving remotely piloted aircraft systems, 83 of them near Prague's Vaclav Havel Airport.
