The Communist Party of China has expelled former Politburo member Ma Xingrui, stripping him of party membership and public office following a corruption investigation announced in April 2026. Ma becomes the third Politburo member investigated during the current leadership term that began in 2022, after He Weidong and Zhang Youxia.
The Politburo approved the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection's findings on June 30. Ma, a former party secretary of Xinjiang, is accused of accepting large sums of money and gifts in exchange for favours, engaging in power-for-sex transactions, and enabling relatives to profit from his position. He allegedly allowed family members to purchase property at reduced prices and pursued what authorities described as systematic family corruption.
Ma, who previously worked at China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, stepped down as Xinjiang party secretary in July 2025 and was not assigned a new role. He had not been seen in public since September 3 last year.
