A Boeing 737 cargo aircraft carrying five crew members went missing off the coast of Karachi on Tuesday evening after reporting a navigation system malfunction. Contact was lost at 21:21 local time approximately 155 nautical miles west of Karachi while the flight was en route from Sharjah.
Flightradar24 data showed sharp altitude fluctuations before a steep descent. The plane initially descended, climbed, then entered a second sudden drop before radar contact ceased.
Pakistan's navy and air force have been deployed for search and rescue operations. The aircraft, manufactured in 1999 and operated by K2 Airways, a private Karachi-based cargo airline, was converted from passenger service in 2012 after previous operations with Aeroflot and Garuda Indonesia. The airline is cooperating with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority on the investigation.
