U.S. border czar Tom Homan said Sunday that if abuse allegations against ICE officer David Brouillette are true, he should not have passed vetting, following the fatal shooting of Joan Sebastián Durán Guerrero on July 13 in Biddeford, Maine.
Homan confirmed that Brouillette's training and vetting are under internal review and said he did not know whether agents involved in shootings in Maine and Texas are on administrative leave, though policy typically requires it. Two ex-wives have accused Brouillette of domestic abuse, with one telling investigators she was never contacted despite known court proceedings.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin ordered a pause on vehicle stops after the Maine shooting, which Trump reversed. ICE acting director David Venturella issued a directive requiring body cameras during vehicle stops. Lawmakers were briefed that 56 excessive-force complaints have been filed against ICE officers, with Democrats calling for vetting reviews.
