Building supplies retailer Bauhaus is closing all its operations in Norway, a move that will eliminate 294 registered jobs across three warehouse stores in Lier, Stavanger and Vestby.
Managing Director Kenneth Litland said the wind-down was the most responsible decision following a strategic review of the company's Norwegian business. The union Handel og Kontor confirmed that employees were informed of the closure at a meeting on Wednesday. One staff member said all operations are expected to cease by December 31, though the company has not set exact closing dates and the stores will remain open during a liquidation period.
The Brønnøysund Register showed Bauhaus Norway had 294 employees on its books as of August 10. The German-headquartered chain has operated in the Norwegian market for several years but has struggled to gain significant market share against established domestic competitors.
