Australian PM Albanese apologises for podcast comments about Kylie Minogue

· Politics AUS

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has issued an unequivocal apology for remarks he made about pop star Kylie Minogue during a podcast appearance, following sharp criticism from political opponents who said the comments demeaned his office.

During an appearance on the Bush Deep podcast with comedian Nikki Osborne, Albanese was asked a "shag, marry or date" question involving Minogue, actress Nicole Kidman, and singer Rhonda Burchmore. He responded "Kylie, clearly" and, when pressed further on whether he would date, marry, or have sex with Minogue, answered "all three".

Senator Sarah Henderson condemned the remarks as disrespectful to women and damaging to the dignity of the prime minister's office. Another MP called them entirely inappropriate. Albanese apologised without reservation on Monday but did not retract the comments.
