Amnesty International has called for three Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon to be investigated as war crimes, saying the attacks wiped out entire families and killed 24 civilians, including 12 children.
The rights group found that the strikes, carried out between March 6 and 13 on residential homes in Tyre, Nabatieh, and the town of Arkai, violated international humanitarian law by failing to distinguish between civilians and military targets. Amnesty researcher Christine Beckerle called for a comprehensive arms embargo on Israel. Israeli authorities, who have previously said some strikes targeted Hezbollah military objectives, did not provide specific responses to the three attacks under review.
The conflict in Lebanon, which erupted after a Hezbollah rocket attack on March 2, has killed more than 4,300 people. Lebanon and Israel signed a U.S.-brokered framework agreement on June 26.
