Alibaba Group on Monday released Qwen3.8-Max, its most advanced artificial intelligence model to date, featuring 2.4 trillion parameters and the ability to sustain more than 10 days of autonomous development through to the completion of a full project.

The Chinese tech giant said the model competes with leading U.S. offerings from OpenAI and Anthropic, including Anthropic's Fable 5. On the Arena.AI benchmarking platform, Qwen3.8-Max ranked as the top Chinese model for text tasks, though it trailed Anthropic's models overall. Alibaba also said it outperformed domestic rival Kimi K3, Moonshot AI's 2.8-trillion-parameter model, across several tests. Pricing is set at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens.

Alibaba, which has pledged over $52 billion in AI and cloud investment across three years, said it will publish the model's open weights next week. The launch follows recent releases from Chinese peers, including Moonshot's Kimi K3 and Zhipu's GLM-5.2.
