Abanca Portugal profit rises 11.9% in first half as parent group earnings fall

· Business PRTESP

Abanca's Portuguese unit posted a first-half net profit of 41.6 million euros, up 11.9% from the same period last year, contrasting with a 9.6% earnings decline at the Spanish parent group, which reported 386 million euros in consolidated profit.

The Portuguese subsidiary added roughly 10,000 clients and extended 3 billion euros in new lending since January, with pre-tax earnings climbing 25.7% to 62.6 million euros. Portugal accounted for 32% of the group's approximately 10 billion euros in new credit issued in the period, a performance the group's president called stronger than its domestic Spanish operations.

The results follow Abanca's 2024 acquisition of EuroBIC, whose integration was completed in late 2025 with the closure of 24 branches, leaving 229 outlets. The Portuguese market now generates 17% of group revenue, with a target of 20%.
