Angie Nixon won the Democratic US Senate primary in Florida on Tuesday, securing an upset victory over Alexander Vindman, a former National Security Council official who testified during President Donald Trump's 2019 impeachment hearings.

The result defied a stark financial disparity: Nixon's campaign held $975,000 compared to Vindman's $16.3 million as of the end of July. Vindman raised roughly 16 times more than his opponent over the course of the race.

Nixon now advances to the general election against Republican Ashley Moody, who won her party's primary on Tuesday. The winner will serve the final two years of former Senator Marco Rubio's term.

Democrat Mary Peltola and Republican Senator Dan Sullivan are advancing to November's general election in Alaska's US Senate race, with both leading the state's non-partisan top-four primary after Tuesday's vote. Peltola held 46.8% and Sullivan 44.4% with two-thirds of ballots counted, securing two of four general-election slots. The final two spots remain undetermined.

The race carries added intrigue: state and federal prosecutors are investigating whether the candidacy of Dan J Sullivan, a retired schoolteacher sharing the senator's name, is part of a conspiracy to confuse voters. A grand jury issued subpoenas last week. Sullivan, 61, is seeking a third term, while Peltola, 52, lost her House seat in 2024 and is attempting a comeback.

Elsewhere, Byron Donalds won the Republican nomination for Florida governor and Angie Nixon took the Democratic Senate nomination. Harriet Hageman leads Wyoming's Republican Senate primary.

Republican Representative Cory Mills lost his primary in Florida's 7th Congressional District on Tuesday, falling to challenger Ryan Elijah by roughly 12 percentage points as he faced overlapping federal scrutiny. Mills is the 11th House member to lose a primary this year.

Elijah, backed by Republican Representatives Anna Paulina Luna and Mike Haridopolos, secured about 46 percent of the vote to Mills' 34 percent with most ballots counted. The incumbent had been dogged by a House Ethics Committee investigation into sexual misconduct allegations and campaign finance violations, as well as a Justice Department probe into his finances. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis publicly distanced himself from Mills, stating he did not support the congressman.

Elijah now advances to face Bale Dalton, a former NASA chief of staff and Navy veteran backed by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. The Cook Political Report recently downgraded the district from solid to likely Republican.

Voters in Florida, Alaska, Wyoming and Hawaii head to the polls on Tuesday in a slate of primary elections that will shape November's midterm contests. In Florida, Byron Donalds leads the Republican gubernatorial primary with Donald Trump's endorsement, while David Jolly and Gwen Graham top Democratic fundraising. Ashley Moody, appointed to the U.S. Senate by Governor DeSantis in 2025, faces little Republican opposition in her bid for the seat vacated by Marco Rubio and polls at 50 percent against Democratic challengers Alexander Vindman and Angie Nixon. Trump cast his own ballot by mail in the Florida primaries.

In Wyoming, Megan Degenfelder leads the Republican gubernatorial race with Trump's backing. Hawaii holds open primaries, with Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke under investigation for bribery.
